Daily Devotional August 19 - You Don't Need To Help God

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.: Casting all you care upon Him; for He careth for you."  1 Peter 5:6-7

Cast all your cares upon Him. God can take it. You cannot surprise God. If God can be surprised it's only that you would attempt to carry the heavy burdens on your shoulders when God has offered to take care of them for you. When the Bible says, "for He careth for you," it means that God actually does something on behalf of what you are caring about and brings it to fruition. When God cares, it's not like God worries or is concerned, or that God is empathetic, like when we care. When God cares, He puts in motion all of creation to complete what you are caring about.

Here are a few notes about the reality of your troubles and concerns:
  • Most of the things that you are worried about will never happen.
  • Most of the problems in life can be used to strengthen you and make you better than before.
If you have a really big problem, you are probably powerless to do anything about your situation anyway.  Why not trust God? Why not just go to God and ask Him to handle your affairs. God is equipped with supernatural affair handling devices that when engaged in the correcting of your situation are perfectly suited to lay waste to your troubles and re-create in you a new and vibrant view of your life. Why would you try to compete with that?

Give it up. I am probably speaking to someone that has been trying to work out a particular situation in their life for weeks, months, years or even decades. If what you are doing hasn't worked yet, you have nothing to lose by trying it God's way. You just lay it down. You lay it down and you remove yourself from the internal emotional connection to it and you put your hand up (so to speak) and block the thoughts of it when they (recurring thoughts about the situation) do their roundabout in your mind.

You talk to God about the situation and let Him know that you have unhitched that particular cargo. Nothing more, nothing less. God is able. As the days go by and you are faithful to not reattach the cargo trailer, you will see the hand of God working on your behalf. You don't need to help God. You need to trust God.
