"And as Jesus passes forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow Me. And he arose, and followed him." matthew 9:9
When Jesus walked by where you were living and saw you doing whatever you were doing and asked you to follow Him, what did you do? Not what did you say. What did you do? Because Matthew and many others in scripture did something at the call from Jesus, I believe that we too must do something when Jesus calls. It's part of our make-up. God made us and God breathed into us life. God made us and then God saves us from our sins. In that process, God put in us free will and within that free will is the natural/supernatural ability to either accept or reject the call from God, the call from Jesus to follow Him.
I want to make the clarification that to follow Jesus is not the same as giving Him lip service. Too many of our society think they really have it going on because they are a member in good standing in a denomination. By the way, being in good standing in a denomination is a very good thing and rightly to be admired. What I am taking about is, within your denomination are you personally involved with a day to day relationship with Jesus where Jesus is real, you hear His voice and you attempt in your frailty to do what you are asked. That's the difference in following Him and just saying you will do something.
Anybody can say they are going to do something, but only those who accept the call and move forward are actually following. Let me ask you, if Jesus is alive and calling and saving and leading and blessing, what would be a good reason not to follow Him? I can't think of any reason at all.
